Five including Helena Jahangir jailed

Five persons including expelled Awami League leader and Joyjatra Television Chairman Helena Jahangir have been jailed for two years each in an extortion case.

The court has also fined Tk 2,000 each. In default, the five will have to suffer two months more in prison.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain delivered the judgement in presence of the convicts.

Other four convicts are Joyjatra Television General Manager Hazera, Chief News Editor Kamruzzaman Arif, Co-ordinator Sanaullah Nuri and Staff Seporter Mahfuzur Rahman.

The court also issued an arrest warrant against Helena Jahangir and Hazera Khatun as they did not appeared before the court.

On August 2, 2021, Joyjatra Television's Bhola district correspondent Abdur Rahman Tuhin filed an extortion case against them.
