No one to remain homeless in 211 upazilas

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over 39365 more houses under Ashrayan-2 project to landless and homeless families on Wednesday (March 22) as part of the government's target of ensuring housing for the landless and homeless people.

Prime Minister’s principal secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah disclosed the information at a press conference in the Prime Minister’s office in the capital on Tuesday noon (March 21).

He said 2,37,831 houses have been allocated for the purpose of rehabilitating landless and homeless families across the country from 2020 to March this year on the occasion of Mujib Borsha. The number of beneficiaries across the country has reached about 13 lakh.

With tomorrow's announcement, the total number of homeless-landless free districts will be nine and upazilas will be 211, he said.

According to the updated data, the number of landless and homeless families is 2,59,237. Among them, 63,999 were given houses on January 23, 2021 in the first phase, 53,330 on June 20, 2021 in the second phase, 32,904 in the first phase of the third phase on April 26, 2022, while 26,229 in the second part of the third phase on July 21, 2022 and 39,365 in the fourth phase on Wednesday.

Replying to a question, he said ownership of land is given to both husband and wife and land registration and mutation are also given after the names of both husband and wife.
