Bangladesh mission in Kuala Lumpur celebrated Independence Day

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur celebrates the 52nd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with due fervor and festivity at JW Mariott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 21 March 2023.

Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, the Home Minister of Malaysia graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. High dignitaries of Malaysia, Ambassadors, diplomats from different Embassies/High Commissions, Senior government officials of Malaysia, business community, media personnel, and members of Bangladeshi community attended the event.

Among the dignitaries, Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd. Ali Bin Mohd. Rustam, Hon’ble Governor of Melaka, YAM Tunku Zain Al-Abidin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Hon’ble Deputy Minister, Ministry of Human Resources, Ybhg. Ts. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Secretary General, Ministry of Youth & Sports, YB Senator Datu Seri Vell Paar, Dato’ Norman Bin Muhamad, Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hairil Yahri Yaacob, Deputy Secretary General (Trade), Ministry of International Trade and Industry graced the occasion.

At the outset of the event, Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail wished peace, success and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh in his prayer speech. In response, Bangladesh High Commissioner Mr. Golam Sarwar also offered prayer speech wishing the peace, progress and prosperity for the government and friendly people of Malaysia. Then, the national anthems of the two countries played and the dignitaries joined in a cake-cutting ceremony amid a joyful ambience. The event also showcased photographs and promotional videos highlighting the development journey, tourism and trade & investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

At the beginning of his welcome speech, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Mr. Md. Golam Sarwar paid rich tribute to the greatest Bengali of all time and our father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also paid homage to the three million martyrs and two hundred thousand mothers and sisters for their sacrifices during our war of independence. Bangladesh High Commissioner also mentioned that Bangladesh and Malaysia have strengthened bilateral cooperation in various fields including education, commerce and trade, investment, economic and technical assistance, culture, energy, tourism, human resource development and employment of workers.

High Commissioner also highlighted the remarkable progress of Bangladesh in socio economic sectors under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which made Bangladesh as the 35th largest economy of the world and marching towards becoming 20th largest economy by 2037 and a trillion-dollar economy by 2040. He also apprised the guests about Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of becoming a Developed country (Shonar Bangla) by 2041 as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. To take the advantage of economic opportunities in the local market of 170 million people, regional market of 300 billion population and access to greater global market, Bangladesh High Commissioner requested our trusted friend Malaysia to invest more in the newly established 100 Economic Zones, 38 High Tech Park and other mega infrastructural projects in Bangladesh.

Following the High Commissioner’s speech, a cultural performance was presented by Bangladeshi artists highlighting the history and heritage of Bangladesh which enthralled the invitees. At the end, the guests were served with sumptuous foods including Kacchi Biryani, Fuchka and traditional Bangladeshi sweets.
