EC to cancel nat’l polls too if irregularities found

Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana said that if there is any irregularities, we will cancel the national election like the Gaibandha by-election.

The EC said this while replying reporters at her office in the election building on Wednesday (March 22).

She said our only message is — we guarantee that voters will be able to cast their votes without any hindrance in national elections. As we have stopped voting in the Gaibandha by-election, we will also stop voting in the national election in case of irregularities.

Following the CCTV camera use issue in elections, she also said, we will use CCTV cameras in the five city elections this year. Voting will be conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The decision to use CCTV cameras in national elections is still pending. I can't say what will happen next. But we want to use CCTV cameras.
