Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui dies

Former Chhatra League Foundation president and Member of Parliament Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui passed away at a hospital in the capital. (Inna lillahi wa innailahi rajiun)

He breathed his last at 4:37am while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in the capital on Wednesday (March 29).

Poet Aniket Rajesh, press secretary of Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, confirmed his death to the media.

Nur-e-Alam’s body was taken to Jhenaidah by a helicopter this morning where his first namaz-e-janaza will be held.

After that, his second janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad mosque. He will be given guard of hounour there.

Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui will be buried next to the mosque built by his own in Savar.

Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui participated in the language movement and the six-point movement and played an active role in all the political activities of that time. He served as the president of the Chhatra League during 1970-1972. He had an important role during the liberation war.

He was elected Member of Parliament from the then Jashore-2 Constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the first national parliamentary election of 1973.

Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui participated in the 1996 and 2001 parliamentary elections as a candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League from Jhenaidah-2 constituency.

Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui was born on May 26, 1940 in Jhenaidah district.
