Minister for necessary steps to stop deer hunting in Sundarbans

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin has issued instructions the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Khulna Circle Forest Conservator to take necessary measures to stop deer hunting in the Sundarbans. 

He said, “Implementation of awareness programs and other necessary measures including smart patrolling should be taken for this purpose.”

The Minister came up with the instructions at annual development program progress review meeting held at the conference room of the ministry on Wednesday (March 29).

He issued directives to stop the use of single-use plastic which pollutes the environment in Sundarbans and adjacent areas and take all necessary steps. 

He asked to investigate the cause of fire in various forests of the country and take legal action if anyone is found guilty.

The minister said, “We have to ensure the conservation of our environment and biodiversity. All development activities going on in different areas of the country including Sundarbans should be implemented while maintaining quality.”

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Additional Secretary (Environmental Pollution Control) Md Mizanur Rahman, Director General of Environment Department Dr Abdul Hamid and Chief Forest Conservator of Forest Department Amir Hossain Chowdhury along with heads of various departments and senior officials of the ministry.
