Police have filed an application with a Dhaka court to keep Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams confined in jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Ramna police station’s inspector Abu Ansar, also the investigation officer of the case, filed the application on Thursday (March 30).

Meanwhile, Prasanta Kumar Sarkar, a lawyer for Shamsuzzaman, filed a bail petition for him.

Earlier around 10am, Shamsuzzaman was taken to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in a bid to produce him in the case filed under the Digital Security Act.

A case under the Digital Security Act was filed against him by one Golam Kibria, a Jubo League leader, with the capital’s Tejgaon Thana.

Around 4am on Wednesday, Shamsuzzaman Shams was picked up by members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from his home in Savar.
