A Dhaka court on Thursday (March 30) ordered police to send Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams to jail in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA).

Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after rejecting his bail petition.

Ramna police station’s inspector Abu Ansar, also the investigation officer of the case, filed an application with the court to keep Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams confined in jail in the case.

Earlier around 10am, Shamsuzzaman was taken to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in a bid to produce him in the case filed under the Digital Security Act.

A case under the Digital Security Act was filed against him by one Golam Kibria, a Jubo League leader, with the capital’s Tejgaon Thana.

At Wednesday midnight, Shamsuzzaman Shams was picked up by members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from his home in Savar.

A controversy arose over a report published in Prothom Alo online on Independence Day (March 26). The report was made by Shamsuzzaman Shams, a Savar correspondent of the national daily.
