IAGS declares acknowledgment of Bangladesh genocide in 1971

The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has acknowledged the genocide that occurred during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence.

The IAGS has recently approved a proposal to classify the atrocities committed during the war as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement.

Thus, the adoption of the Bangladesh Genocide Resolution by the IAGS is a significant step towards achieving this goal. The Bangladesh Government remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing further international recognition of the 1971 Bangladesh Genocide.

The IAGS is a non-partisan, interdisciplinary global organization founded in 1994. Its primary objective is to promote research on genocide's nature, causes, and consequences, as well as policy studies on genocide prevention.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the IAGS has already approved multiple formal proposals recognizing genocide committed in various parts of the world.

Additionally, the organization conducts biennial conferences and publishes the journal 'Genocide Studies and Prevention.'

The Government of Bangladesh is working tirelessly to gain worldwide acknowledgment of the genocide that occurred during the Great War of Liberation in 1971.
