No rise in power prices before election

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said the government doesn’t want to raise power prices before the upcoming national election.
He said, the power production has increased and its demand has also increased. We have proposed the NBR to reduce excess tax as we do not want to increase prices of power before election. The ministry hopes to get its reflection in the budget.
The state minister said this as the chief guest at the budget dialogue organized by FERB at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Monday (May 29).
He said, considering the international market, we are thinking to reduce prices of fuel oil.
The state minister said that the government will give subsidy to the sectors which need subsidy.
He also said that the subsidy in the power sector cannot be reduced at the moment due to the fear of inflation.
