World Environment Day today

The World Environment Day-2022 is being observed in the country as elsewhere around the world today (June 5) with a view to creating awareness about environmental pollution.

This year’s theme of the day is ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’.

Different government and non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as educational institutions have chalked out elaborate programs to observe the day.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion of the day, wishing success of all programmes of the day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programmes of the environment day by planting saplings at Ganabhaban.

The Environment Fair will be held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from June 5 to 11, while the Tree Fair 2023 will continue from June 5 to June 26 and July 1 to July 12 next. The fairs will remain open from 9 am to 8 pm every day.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media are airing special programs highlighting the significance of the day.

Marking the day, special supplements from the Department of Environment (DoE) and the Department of Forests have been published in the national newspapers. Besides, the World Environment Day is being celebrated with due importance at district and upazila levels.

Seminars and discussions on environmental issues and environmental awareness campaigns will also be held.
