Govt to buy 50 lakh tonnes of rice bran oil

The government is going to procure 50 lakh tonnes of rice bran oil for sale through its trading arm Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

The total cost of the procurement will be 80 crore taka. The price of rice bran oil will be Tk.160 per liter.

Sources said the commerce ministry has plan to buy 28,43,47826 liters of edible oil for TCB in fiscal year 2022-23. Already, 22,51,37,602 liters of edible oil have been purchased so far. As part of the plan, a decision was taken to buy 50 lakh liter rice bran oil.

Two purchase proposals were processed by TCB following the Public Procurement Rules, 2008 to buy 50 lakh liters of rice bran oil locally.

Majumdar Bran Oil Mills Limited of Nowapara, Jessore expressed consent to supply 25 lakh liter oil in pet bottles.

According to sources in the Ministry of Commerce, a procurement proposal in this regard will be presented at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement on Wednesday for approval.
