Convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi has passed away at the age of 83.
He breathed his last around 8:40 pm on Monday (August 14) while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital.
Brig. Gen. Dr. Md. Rezaur Rahman confirmed the information.
Sayeedi, who was in Kashimpur jail, fell ill on Sunday (August 13) and was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur immediately. From there he was referred to BSMMU in Dhaka.
Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, who was sentenced to imprisonment until death for committing crime against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, was imprisoned in Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
Mentionabel, on June 29, 2010, Delawar Hossain Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was arrested on charges of hurting religious sentiments. On August 2 of the same year, he was arrested in a case of crimes against humanity. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court sentenced him to imprisonment until death on February 17, 2018 for crimes against humanity.
