Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrives in Dhaka

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Dhaka today (Thursday) on a two-day visit.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen is scheduled to receive the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon.

He will hold meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.

Apart from bilateral cooperation issues like energy, food security, fertilizer supply and Rohingya crisis are likely to be discussed during the foreign minister level talk, according to the officials of the Bangladesh foreign ministry.

The Russian Foreign Minister will attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi on September 9-10 after completing his visit to Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said Dhaka would discuss the complex situations that have come across the world since the Ukraine crisis.

"We will highlight the problems that we have," said the foreign secretary.

He said Bangladesh could request Russia to find a peaceful solution to the Ukraine issue as soon as possible.

The two countries will discuss prospects for development of bilateral relations and exchange views on the most pressing regional and international issues, said the Russian Embassy in Dhaka.
