Commercial train operations via Padma Bridge begins

Commercial train service on the Dhaka-Bhanga route through Padma Bridge will begin on Wednesday (1 November). Following the matter, a new rail connection is being established with the capital and south-western parts of the country.

Sources said that the train “Sundarban Express” will leave Khulna station for Dhaka at 9:45 pm.

Khulna Railway Station Master Masud Rana confirmed the matter.

Railway officials said the passenger trains are going to start their services from Dhaka to Faridpur over the Padma bridge today. There will be two trains - 'Sundarban Express' on Dhaka-Khulna route and 'Benapole Express' on Dhaka-Jashore route.

As a result of the construction of this railway, the journey distance from Dhaka to Khulna will be reduced by about 215-km and the distance between Dhaka and Jashore will be reduced to 193-km.

On the other hand, as the Ministry of Railways has decided to reduce the train fare in Dhaka to Bhanga rail route, the new train fare of the intercity train (non-AC) in this route stands at Tk235.

With the decision, Tk115 has been saved for a train passenger as the previous fare of the intercity train (non-AC) was Tk350.
