‘AL has no objection if any party leader runs as independent candidate’

The ruling Awami League has permitted the party leaders, who did not get nominations, to run as independent candidates in the upcoming 12th national parliament election.

“Party leaders, who did not get nominations, can run as independent candidates in the upcoming general election if any leader wants to contest the polls. The party has no objection to this end. The permission for party leaders to run as independent candidates in the upcoming national election is a strategic decision,” said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader at a ceremony held to hand over letters to the party nominees at the party’s Dhanmondi office on Monday (November 27).

The party leaders have been allowed to run as independent candidates in the upcoming national election due to strategic reason and for the need of the party, the AL veteran leader said.
