Awami League takes hardline on upazila polls

The ruling Awami League government is proceeding with the policy of zero tolerance to make the upcoming upazila elections more competitive and participatory and free from all kinds of influences.

The party is hardline so that MPs, ministers and local-level leaders cannot interfere in this election in any way. The party has made it clear, “If anyone interferes in any illegal way, a legal action will be taken against him.” Through this, the Awami League has showed it commitment to make upazila elections free and fair.

Election of 481 upazila parishads of the country will be held in four phases. The first phase of voting will be held on May 8. The election schedule for 152 upazila parishads has already been announced. Nomination papers can be submitted till April 15. The Election Commission will announce the second phase schedule very soon.
