CPB leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono dies

Advisor to the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Haider Akbar Khan Rono passed away early Saturday (May 11) at a private hospital in the capital.

He was 82.

He breathed his last at about 2:05am while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Confirming the matter to the media, CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said the veteran leftist leader may be buried tomorrow at Banani graveyard in the capital.

However, the venue and time of Haider Akbar Khan Rono’s funeral programme will be finalized after talking to his family members, he said.

Prince said the CPB leader had been receiving treatment at his residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi, but he became severely ill and he was taken to the Health and Hope Hospital where he passed away.

Comrade Rono had been suffering from respiratory system complications for a long time, he added.

Haider Akbar Khan Rono was born on 31 August 1942 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Kolkata). His ancestral home is in Borashula village in Narail.
