Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Dec 13: Awami League is sharing its polls symbol ‘boat’ with the candidates of grand alliance in the upcoming 10th national elections.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in this connection sent a letter to Election Commission asking it to allocate ‘boat’ symbol to ten candidates of grand alliance.

AL Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap on Friday afternoon submitted the letter to the secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat.


“I would like to request to allocate the boat symbol to the candidates of different political parties that are partners in the Awami League-lead alliance in the 10th parliamentary election,” reads the letter.


Among the ten, four candidates are form Workers Party, another four from Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal, and the rest of the two are from Bangladesh Tarikat Federation.


The 10 candidates are — Fazle Hossain Badsha (Rajshahi-2), Sheikh Hafizur Rahman (Narail-2), Mustafa Lutfullah (Satkhira-1) and Rashed Khan Menon (Dhaka-8) of Workers Party of Bangladesh; Hasanul Huq Inu (Kustia-2), Zayedul Kabir (Narshingdi-2), Shirin Akhter (Feni-1) and Mainuddin Khan Badal (Chittagon-8) of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal; MA Awal (Laxmipur-1) and Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari (Chittagong-2) of Tarikat Federation.

The next parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on January 5.
