Thousands of BNP leaders and activists have gathered in front of their party office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Tuesday (September 17) afternoon to attend a rally marking International Day of Democracy.
The leaders and activists were thronging at the rally venue, carrying party flags and banners, chanting various slogans, with small processions from different parts of the country. The rally began at 3pm.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will address the Naya Paltan rally virtually from London as chief guest while Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over the rally.
Earlier on September 11, the BNP announced a two-day programme to pay homage to those killed in the movement against authoritarian rule over the past 17 years and to mark International Day of Democracy. Then it rescheduled the rally to Tuesday.
