The BNP has recommended the dissolution of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to the Police Reform Commission formed by the interim government.
BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, also the head of the party’s police reform committee, made the recommendation at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan on Tuesday (December 10).
BNP leader Hafizuddin Ahmed said: “The BNP has recommended the dissolution of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to the interim government’s Police Reform Commission. Apart from this, the party has suggested forming a police commission to keep the force in check.”
He said: “Although the government’s police reform committee did not request recommendations from the BNP, we have provided them. Reforming this crucial state service is now the demand of the time.”
“We have spoken to retired police officers from various levels, journalists, and many others. We have recommended bridging the gap between the police and the public,” he added.
