PM offers fateha at husband`s grave

RANGPUR, July 31: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday offered fateha at the grave of her husband eminent nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Sheikh Hasina also offered fateha at the graves of her father-in-law and mother-in-law seeking divine blessings for the departed souls.
Earlier on her arrival at Pirganj after long four and a half years, thousands of people from all walks of life gathered near Fatehpur helipad to welcome the Prime Minister.
Hasina is visiting Pirganj with her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter-in-law Kristine Overmire for the first time after the Awami League-led grand alliance government assumed office in January 2009.
On her arrival at the helipad, Sheikh Hasina went straight to her father-in-law’s house at Joy Sadan at Fatehpur Laldighee. Her son Joy and daughter-in-law Kristine received Sheikh Hasina at Joy Sadan named after Joy.
Thousands of people, including the neighborhoods and villagers, gathered at Joy Sadan to have a glimpse of their daughter-in-law also welcomed Sheikh Hasina by showering her with flower petals.
Sheikh Hasina later introduced Kristine to Zohra Khatun and Rawshan Ara Wahed, the parental aunts of Joy, and other relatives.
Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister would inaugurate a number of development projects, including the newly-constructed Wazed Miah Bridge over the river Karatua at Kanchdahaghat.
The newly constructed 303.32-metre long and 10.25 metre wide Wajed Miah Bridge was built at a cost of Tk 21.14 crore.
She will also open Pirganj Duckbungalow Bhaban, Rangpur Regional Passport Office, Officers’ Dormitory Building and the activities of Pirganj Pourasava.
Besides, she will lay the foundation stones of Divisional Commissioner’s Complex Building, annex building of Rangpur Circuit House, Pirganj Upazila Complex and Marine Academy and Textiles Institute.
The Prime Minister will address a public rally at Pirganj Government High School ground to be organised by local Awami League.
