BNP leader Tariqul Islam’s death anniversary observed

The first death anniversary of former standing committee member of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and former minister Tariqul Islam was observed on Monday.

He died at a hospital in Dhaka on this day last year and was buried in Jashore on the following day.

Jashore district unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party organized a discussion and doa mehfil.
Tariqul Islam Smriti Parishad also held a discussion at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

Four times lawmaker Tariqul was born to trader Abdul Aziz and housewife Noor Jahan Begum in Jashore on November 16, 1946.

In 1963, he was elected the general secretary of Chhatra Union unit of Michael Madhusudan College where he was an intermediate student. He did his bachelor of arts in economics at the same college. Later he did his master’s in economics at Rajshahi University in 1969.

He was jailed in 1966 and in 1968 for his involvement in anti-Ayub movement. In 1970, he joined National Awami Party founded by Maulana Abdu Hamid Khan Bhasani.

In 1979, he joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He was a standing committee member of Bangladesh Nationalist Party before his death.
