Mohiuddin not running for parliament polls

CHITTAGONG, Sept 14: Awami League senior leader, former Chittagong City Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury is not running for the upcoming parliament polls.
In a discussion meeting with the grassroot leaders of the Awami League at Chittagong on Saturday noon, Mohiuddin said that he has no plans to contest the upcoming national election.
"I have no plans to contest this time. Mohiuddin Chowdhury does not need a post. Mohiuddin Chowdhury works for the people," said the former Mayor to the port city.
The announcement comes just three days after he said he will no longer be participating in any City Corporation polls.
Though he has not any plan of contesting the national election, Mohiuddin said he is willing to work for candidates of the party in Chittagong and adjoining areas such as Cox`s Bazar, Noakhali, Khagrachharhi and Rangamati, if given the responsibility.
A total 16 Awami Leaguers have sought party tickets in the four parliamentary seats of the port city this time.
Mohiuddin was Chittagong`s Mayor for three consecutive terms until he lost in 2010.
