Gono Forum split, faction committee led by Montu formed

Gono Forum, a political party led by Dr Kamal Hossain slit on Saturday, after 28 years of its formation.

A faction led by three leaders including the party’s former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu announced to form the party’s central council on December 26.

The announcement was made after an extended meeting of the Gono Forum led by Montu at the National Press Club on Saturday (September 26).

After the extended meeting, former Gono Forum’s executive president Abu Sayeed said, “We have decided that the National Council will be held on December 26 to make the organisation strong and people-oriented. A 201-member committee has been formed by convening former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu to make the national council a success.”

Mostafa Mohsin Montu said the next decision on the new party would be based on views of the delegates present at the council on December 26.

Montu said about Dr Kamal Hossain, “We still believe that Dr Kamal Hossain will come with us avoiding controversial people and go ahead with people of the field. We will not decide at our conference about his expulsion if he does not come with us. Councilors and delegates will attend the conference. We will decide with their opinion.”

Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, former executive president of the party, said, “283 leaders from 52 districts of Gono Forum are with us.”
