Boat wins, individual defeated: Jahangir Alam

Former Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Jahangir Alam, son of newly-elected mayor Zayeda Khatun, has said that ‘boat has won but individual has defeated’ in the polls.

Jahangir Alam came up with the remark in a reaction in front of his residence after the Election Commission had announced the polls results on Thursday midnight.

“I have never gone against Awami League, I will never go. I didn’t go against the boat. My respect and love for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has remained and will remain. We fought against the individual. Mothers have won the Gazipur city elections. My mother wants to work with all”.

Zayeda Khatun, the mother of expelled ruling party leader Zahangir Alam, has won the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections.

The independent mayoral aspirant Zayeda secured 238,934 votes with ‘table clock’ symbol in 480 centres.  Besides, her nearest rival Awami League-backed candidate Azmat Ullah Khan bagged 222,737 votes with 'boat' symbol.
