Conspiracy was active to foil 12th JS polls: PM

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there was an active conspiracy to foil the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election held on January 7.

“Many cannot tolerate the socio-economic development of the people of Bangladesh. That’s why, they started hatching conspiracy against holding elections in a fair manner,” she said.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing the special extended meeting that began at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official Ganabhaban residence at 10.45 am on Saturday (February 10).

The Prime Minister said, “The Awami League leaders and activists have returned the people’s right to vote and basic rights. We are working for the welfare of the people. We have established their rights.”

She said, “Our development is up to the grassroots. We are trying to ensure that no one in the society is neglected. That’s why, we have planned accordingly and are implementing it. For that reason, we have been able to gain the trust and confidence of the people.”

Sheikh Hasina said, “People are our only strength. There is only one people’s organisation in Bangladesh and that is Awami League.”

Mentioning that there was a conspiracy regarding the election, the Premier said that there was a conspiracy to prevent the election from being held. BNP started arson attack and vandalism to thwart the election.

She urged his party leaders and activists to work together in order to advance the country and avoid finding faults to each other.

Party’s national committee, central working committee, advisory council, presidents and general secretaries of district, city, upazila, thana, municipality, lawmakers of Awami League and independent, zilla and upazila parishad mayors who elected in AL ticket and presidents and general secretaries of central committee of AL associate bodies were present at the the special extended meeting.
