‘Tradition system of madrasah education system must be brought back’

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain speaking at the seminar

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain has said the madrasah education is a specialized system. It must be maintained. It cannot be allowed to ruin it in the name of ultra-modernity. The uniqueness of this education system must be maintained. The tradition of the madrasa education system must be brought back.

The adviser said thus while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Alia Madrasah Education System for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Ways to Overcome” at the IDEB Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

“From the founding of Kolkata Alia Madrasah to the establishment of the Deoband Madrasah, scholars and ulamas educated under the Alia system illuminated the intellectual landscape of the region for 86 years. Even today, many graduates of Alia Madrasash continue to make meaningful contributions at various levels of the society,” he said, requesting everyone to come out of the feeling of inferiority.

The religious affairs adviser said the movement should be continued against those who want to suppress the madrasah education system.

The seminar was organized by the Bangladesh Madrasah Student Welfare Council.

With Bangladesh Madrasah Student Welfare Council Adviser Maulana Zainul Abedin in the chair, key discussant in this seminar was Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, Vice Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University.

Dr. Mohammad Hedayet Ullah, Curriculum Expert of Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, made keynote presentation. Professor Dr. Ahmed Ali, Department of Islamic Studies, Chittagong University, Professor Md. Aliullah, Dean at Islamic Arabic University, and Zahidul Islam, President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, among others, also spoke.

More than a hundred Islamic scholars, ulama and madrasa students participated in the seminar.
