The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) seeking documents related to donations and grants made to Shuchona Foundation, founded by ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and the Center for Research and Information (CRI), associated with her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
The watchdog’s deputy director Md Monirul Islam sent the letter on Sunday (July 13).
The ACC letter sought documents related to the exemption of donations and grants from income tax to the Shuchana Foundation. In addition, the names, father's name, age, surname, current and permanent address, mobile number of the officers and employees who maintain these documents, as well as a certified photocopy of the work distribution list of the branch that maintains the said documents, have been asked to send.
Shuchona Foundation Chairman Saima Wazed Putul and others are accused of embezzling funds from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds of various banks through various irregularities and corruption, according to the letter.
