Bangladesh women team secured their maiden T20I victory against the South Africa women team, clinching a 13-run win in Benoni on Sunday.
This has been Bangladesh’s first win against South Africa since 2012.
Leg-spinner Shorna Akter emerged as the star performer, claiming five wickets for 28 runs in a closely contested match.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 149-2 on the board, with an unbeaten 62 from opener Murshida Khatun alongside skipper Nigar Sultana Joty’s quickfire 34 runs off 21 balls.
In reply, South Africa started well as Anneke Bosch (67) and Tazmin Brits (30) added 69 runs in 9.3 overs.
Then Rabeya Khan brought the first breakthrough as she dismissed the latter, and then the havoc began from Shorna. She picked up Sune Luus (18) in her second over, and then the dangerous Bosch alongside Nondumiso Shangase in her next.
