“In cricket, Tests are 5 days, ODIs are 7 hours... I have come to play a quick T20 innings... I hope everyone will remember me,” said Aminul Islam Bulbul in his first reaction to media after being elected the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has been elected president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Bulbul was elected as the 16th president at the meeting of board of directors at the BCB headquarters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Aminul held various positions in the ICC and ACC for more than a decade.
At the end of April, he decided to work with the BCB at the invitation of Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan.
Bulbul has replaced another former Faruque Ahmed.
According to the constitution, the next BCB election will be held in October. So, has Bulbul come for only three months? The country's first centurion in a Test match did not directly answer such a question. He said, “I did not come for three months, I have come to do my job. I will leave when the job is done.”
Popularly known as Bulbul, Aminul's name was etched in country's cricket folklore for being the 'maiden Test centurion'. He hit that century in his debut Test against India in 2000, which was also Bangladesh's maiden Test. He played for the national team for more than a decade.
Wearing national jersey, he played 13 Tests and 39 ODIs. After saying goodbye to international cricket in 2002, he started coaching in the country. Later, he settled down with his family in Australia.
