Europa Group clinch Marcel T20 Corporate Cricket title

Sports Correspondent: Walton capitulated to a nine-wicket defeat to Europa Group in the in the final match of the fourth Marcel T20 Corporate Cricket Tournament-2014 on Saturday.

Batting first at Mohammadpur Eidgah playground in the capital, Walton, the country’s leading electronics, automobiles and home appliance products’ manufacturer company, scored 101 runs losing all wickets in 16.3 overs.

In replay, Europa Group reached the target in 11.3 overs losing only 1 wicket.

Europa Group batsman Ratan hit a unbeaten half-century to bag the easy win in the final of their first ever participation of the tournament. The left-hand batsman scored 54 runs in 24 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours.

Besides, Belayet Hossain was also unbeaten on 27 runs. 

Earlier when batting first, Walton opener Zahirul Islam Juel was the top scorer for his team who hit 2 sixes and 1 four to bag 20 runs in 14 balls. Rahatul Islam added more 14 runs while Sahel Miah’s contribution was 10.

Walton skipper Uday Hakim was unbeaten on 2 runs.

Europa Group bowler Iftekhar Alam bagged 4 wickets in 4 overs for 6 runs. Obaidur Rahman took 2 wickets. He was awarded the Man of the Match prize.

The Champion team was given Tk. 1 lakh cash and a 32-inch Marcel LED television while the Runners-up team got Tk. 50,000 cash and a 24-inch LED television.

Walton’s Sahel Miah was chosen as the Man of the Tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice-president Mahbub Anam, Marcel Chief Marketing Officer Mosharraf Hossain Rajib, RB Group executive director Emdadul Haque Sarker and brand ambassador Ilias Kanchan were present during the prize given ceremony.
