Zia beats Niaz in National ‘A’ Chess Champ

DHAKA, Sept 27: GM Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Mohammedan beat his teammate reigning champion GM Niaz Murshed in the 6th round games of the Berger Paints 39th National ‘A’ Chess Championship-2013 on Friday.
Sponsored by Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation is now being held at the Media Centre of Bangladesh Olympic Association in the capital.
In the 6th round game on Friday, Zia played with white pieces took English Opening and won against Niaz at 40th moves.
IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar of Bangladesh Ansar continuing his solely lead in the points table with 5½ points after 6th round games.
Sagar beat Md. Jamal Uddin of Titas Club. Sagar played with white pieces took Scotch Game and won against Jamal at 43rd moves.
GM Zia is in 2nd position with 5 points and GM Abdulla Al-Rakib of Access Group is in 3rd position with 4½ points.
Rakib drew with FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed of Titas Club. Nasir played with white pieces against Caro-Kann Defense of Rakib and continued to Bronstein-Larsen Variation and drew at 41st moves.
GM Enamul Hossain Razib beat IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Access group. Razib played with black pieces took Sicilian Defense and continued to Taimanov variation of Shakil, Razib won after 50 moves.
FM Kh. Aminul Islam of Bangladesh Ansar beat Shafiq Ahmed of Golden Chess Club. Amin played with black pieces took Nimzowitsch Defense and won against Shafiq after 35 moves.
FM Debaraj Chatterjee beat his teammate FM Mehdi Hasan Parag. Debaral played with white pieces against Dutch Defense of Parag and continued to Leningrad system and won against Parag at 28th moves.
FM Mohammed Javed beat Mohammed Hafizul Islam Chapal of Dhaka City. Javed played with white pieces against Sicilian Defense of Chapal and took Scheveningen system and won against Chapal at 51st moves.
Points after 6th round: 5½-Sagar, 5-Zia, 4½-Rakib, 4-Razib, 3½-Niaz and Nasir, 3-Amin, Debaraj and Shafiq, 2½- Javed, 2-Shakil and Pagar, ½- Jamal and 0-Chapal.
7th round games will start Saturday at 4:00 PM at the same venue.
Games are: Chapal Vs. Shakil, Jamal Vs. Javed, Rakib Vs. Sagar, Niaz Vs. Nasir, Amin Vs. Zia, Parag Vs. Shafiq and Razib Vs. Debaraj.
