Khawaja not able to travel to India

Usman Khawaja has informed his fans he has been left stranded in Australia after the rest of the national team flew out for their tour of India because he cannot get a visa to travel to the country.

After winning the Test Player of the Year gong at Monday night's Australian Cricket Awards, the star batter was due to fly out with the rest of the side on Tuesday - but on Wednesday he revealed the visa hitch has left him stuck at home.

The 36-year old revealed his situation on Facebook, posting 'Me waiting for my Indian visa like...' above a photo of an actor playing Pablo Escobar in the hit TV series Narcos, which is heavily used in memes to illustrate boredom or depression.

The 'standard' reference almost certainly refers to the fact Khawaja has had this problem before.

In August 2011 the Indian government refused to grant him a visa to enter the country for the Champion's League Twenty20 tournament, giving rise to speculation it did so because the star was born in Pakistan, India's great rival, before moving to Australia as a toddler.

The Indian government said the refusal was down to a bureaucratic bungle but Khawaja remained unconvinced.

Some of his 1.7million Facebook followers agreed with him after his post went up on Wednesday.
