Shakib opens “Cancer Foundation" on his birthday

Bangladesh cricket sensation Shakib Al Hasan inaugurated the "Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation" on his birthday.

The cancer foundation started its journey through a program in a five-star hotel in the capital on Friday (March 24).

Shakib in his speech said that the Ramadan begins today, it is Jumma day, and today is my birthday. The day is special for another reason. We launched a new initiative today. I was involved in many steps and tried to stay beside people. Now I want to do something institutionally. That is the reason of forming this cancer foundation.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papan, the foundation members, BCB director Obed Nizam, selector Habibul Bashar and couple of former cricketers attended the function.

Although the foundation is named after Shakib, the main entrepreneur is former cricketer Abdullah Al Kafi. He was the caption of  Bangladesh Under-19 team in 2003. Kafi will work as general secretary of the foundation.

The other founding members of the foundation are – BKSP’s two coach Nazmul Abedin and Sarwar Imran, and BKSP former student Abdur Razzak, Naim Islam, Suhrawadi Shuvo, and Nasirul Islam.

Basically, the initiative of the foundation was taken when Kafi’s BKSP classmate and friend Zafar Sadek Rasel died of cancer in 2016.
