A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking the formation of a high-powered judicial commission to investigate the brutal murder of scrap dealer Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, in front of Mitford Hospital in the capital.
Yunus Ali Akand, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ on Sunday (July 13) with the relevant branch of the High Court.
The petition also requested directives for the immediate arrest of the real perpetrators directly involved in the murder.
The petition further sought directives for appropriate compensation for the victim’s family and for issuing red alerts at land and airports so that the culprits cannot escape.
The writ is scheduled for hearing on Monday.
Sohag, 39, was killed in a gruesome attack last Wednesday (July 9) in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. According to eyewitness accounts, he was lured to the spot, beaten, and struck repeatedly with bricks and stones, resulting in severe injuries to his head and body. He was also stripped, and some of the attackers were seen jumping on his body.
The victim’s sister filed a case over the murder on Thursday at Kotwali police station against 19 named and 15 to 20 unnamed individuals.
Meanwhile, law enforcers have arrested five people including the prime accused in connection with the murder.
