Rangpur polls: Voting ends, counting begins

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Voting to the Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) has been held peacefully amid huge enthusiasm and festive mood.

Election officials have started counting the votes after the peaceful end to the RpCC polls.

The Election Commission (EC) sources said the election was held in a free, fair and festive mood at 193 voting centers which started at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm without any disruption.

The EC deployed over 5,500 law enforcers and took four-tier measures in the RpCC area for ensuring peaceful voting in all 193 polling centres.

A total of 283 candidates, including seven for mayoral candidates, 211 candidates for 33 general councilor posts and 65 candidates for 11 reserved female councilor posts, are contesting in the city polls.

Nearly 3,93,091 were expected to cast their votes in the polls.
