Morality of our people on the wane

People bemoan the steep fall in national morality, though there’s no yardstick to fathom it. Luscious litchis enjoyed by all can be taken as an indicator. Litchis come in bunches of 100 at prices which increase every year.

In the 1950s and 60s, prices were Rs. 2-5 and you could get up to 120 fruit in the bunch! Thereafter prices rose and the number of fruit reduced, although the same price for 100 was being charged. 2012 prices went up to Tk.300, but the number of fruits in each bunch came down to 80-85 fruits. 2013 takes the cake! Yesterday I paid Tk. 400 for a bunch of supposedly 100 litchis but after counting at home I found only 71 fruits. This from the seller from whom I have been buying litchis for the last 8 years! What brazen-faced effrontery!
