Tax officer sacked for embezzling Tk 3.5 crore

Md Mesbah Uddin, former assistant tax commissioner of Khulna zone, has been sacked permanently for embezzling the money, collected from taxpayers, instead of depositing to the state coffer.

Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification in this connection on Tuesday (January 25).

According to sources concerned, Mesbah collected taxes, while working at circles in Khulna tax zone, embezzled the pay orders, DDs, cross checks submitted by the taxpayers by depositing them illegally in various bank accounts without depositing them in the government treasury.

After the allegations came to light, the Internal Resources Division filed a case against the accused officer in 2019 and temporarily suspended him. The President approved the proposal to dismiss him on January 23 if he is found guilty in the investigation.
