Pay Tk 30 lakh to each family of United Hospital fire victims: HC

The High Court (HC) directed the United Hospital authorities to give Tk 30 lakh to each of the families of four victims -- out of five -- who were burnt to death in a fire that originated at its isolation unit on May 27.

The hospital authorities have been asked to pay the money as compensation to the victims' families within 15 days.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim came up with the directive on Wednesday (July 15).

Earlier, a writ petition was filed on behalf of the victims' families, seeking compensation from the hospital authorities.

On June 29, the HC directed the United Hospital authorities to provide compensation through amicable settlement to families of the victims.
