Risingbd stands by woman who sold hair to buy milk for child

Country’s popular online news portal “risingbd” has stood by the woman who sold her hair to buy milk for her 18-month-old child at Savar.

Risingbd sent its Savar correspondent Ariful Islam Sabbir to the woman’s family with food assistance. He handed over 15-day food stuffs to the woman around 1:00pm on Wednesday.

It was learnt that Sathi Begum’s day labourer husband became unemployed since the countrywide shutdown began due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As the family had been starved for two days, Sathi sold her hair of head with Tk 180. With the money, he bought some milk for her child and one kilogram of rice for other family members.

Risingbd on Tuesday published a story over the matter with title “Woman sells hair to buy milk for child (video)”.

Uday Hakim, Advisory Editor of risingbd, noticed the story that shook his heart. He immediately took initiatives to reach food assistance to Sathi. With his directives, food stuffs for 15 days and hand cash were reached to the family on Wednesday noon.

The food stuffs include rice, pulse, potato, flour, edible oil, salt, spices, baby milk, sugar etc.

Sathi Begum thanked risingbd after receiving the food assistance.

She said, “I’m happy and very much grateful to risingbd for the food assistance and cash money. I was unable to buy milk for my baby because of misery.”

“Now many people are visiting me with food help since risingbd published a story about the misery of my family,” she added.

Uday Hakim, Advisory Editor of risingbd, said, “At this crisis moment, it is a humanitarian responsibility for us to stand beside people. We are always with helpless people and will be in future. The empathetic mother sold the hair to buy milk for her child. This kindness of a mother cannot be measured with anything.”
