United Hospital’s compensation order stayed

The Appellate Division Chamber Court has stayed until August 16 the High Court (HC) order that had directed the United Hospital authorities to give Tk 30 lakh to each of the families of four victims -- out of five -- who were burnt to death in a fire that originated at its isolation unit on May 27.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Nuruzzaman Nani passed the order on Tuesday (July 21).

Earlier on July 14, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim directed the United Hospital authorities to give Tk 30 lakh to each of the families of four victims -- out of five -- who were burnt to death in a fire that originated at its isolation unit on May 27.

The hospital authorities were asked to pay the money as compensation to the victims' families within 15 days.

On June 29, the HC directed the United Hospital authorities to provide compensation through amicable settlement to families of the victims.
