ACC files case against Papul’s sister-in-law

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against former lawmaker of Lakshmipur-2 constituency Md Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul’s sister-in-law and two tax officials on charge of forgery in tax return.
ACC deputy director Md Mashiur Rahman filed the case on Thursday (May 16).
The accused are Papul’s sister-in-law Jasmin Pradhan, Deputy Tax Commissioner of Region-4 Khandkar Md Hasanul Islam and Hiresh Lal Barman, Senior Assistant of Tax Zone-8.
The accused have been charged under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 including Penal Code 420/467/468/471/109.
According to the case statement, in 2021, Papul's sister-in-law Jasmin Pradhan made a plot with the employees working in the office of Tax Circle-165, Tax Zone-08 and filed the returns from the tax year 2016-2017 to the tax year 2020-2021 on the same day.
