14 held over snatching, robbery in capital

Staff Correspondent:  Detectives have arrested 14 persons in connection with separate incidents of snatching, robbery and killing from capital’s Badda and Shyampur areas.

 In separate drives on Tuesday night, police arrested six terrorists and eight dacoits.

Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan of Police (DMP) Monirul Islam informed it at a press conference at the DMP media centre on Wednesday noon.

A gang of muggers shot Selim Akhtar, an accountant of private company Aquamarine Distribution Ltd, and snatched Tk 33 lakh from Moghbazar area on May 24. Six persons have been arrested in this connection and the arrestees are Omar Faruk alias Alamin (28), Pobitro Samaddar (38), Rakib (20), Jahirul Islam Jakir (25), Rifat (25) and Jakir Hossian (25).
Police also recovered a foreign pistol, three rounds of bullets and 100 pieces of Yaba during the drives.   

 
In separate drive from the capital’s Shyampur area, police also held eight dacoits while they were planning to commit robbery.

The arrestees are Jalal (30), Yusuf Hawladar (35), Bachchu Sardar (40), Quddus Mia (35), Nekbar Mia (45), Kamaruzzaman (40), Swapon (40) and Kamal Sheikh.
