Qatar World Cup 2022 kicks off

The FIFA World Cup, has kicked off with a glittering ceremony in Qatar, marking the first world cup in the Middle East.
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Than inaugurated the event at Al Bayt Stadium before the first match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday (November 20).
Organizers say the seven-act narration is guided by “a strong visual concept, a bespoke musical project and world-class talents, interlacing Qatari tradition with worldwide culture”.
Hollywood star Morgan Freeman delivers a message of hope, unity and tolerance at the start of the ceremony, as hundreds of dancers and musicians take to the stage.
Football fans were given a special treat as BTS star Jung Kook performed in the ceremony. Jung Kook performed with the official World Cup song Dreamers with Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi.
The event was produced on a nostalgic take on the previous World Cups, with even songs like K'naan's Wavin' Flag in the background. With the opener done, hosts Qatar fae Ecuador in the tournament opener.
