Fire at Sundarbans, extinguishing blaze to start Sunday morning

A fire broke out in the Amarbunia area of Chandpai range in the eastern region of the Sundarbans under Bagerhat on Saturday (May 4) noon. 

Being informed, two units of Morelganj and Mongla fire stations rushed to the area, but they did not begin to start extinguishing blaze. According to sources, they will start work from Sunday morning.

Chandpai range officer Rana Deb said, “Initially, fishermen found smoke inside the forest and later informed forest officials.” 

Chandpai Range Station Officer Anisur Rahman said that the fire spread around two kilometers radius and the fire was originated from the flare torched by honey collectors to drive away the bees from their hives.
 
Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans (East Zone), said due to darkness, the drive has been stopped and it will begin tomorrow again.

The reason behind the fire and the damage could not be known immediately.
