10 students injured as teacher beat them

Jamalpur Correspondent: As many as 10 students have been injured as a teacher beat them due to late returning to the class after tiffin.

The injured students were admitted to a local hospital.

The incident occurred at Bahadurabad A Rab Alia Madrasa at Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur on Thursday noon.

Agitating guardians of the injured students locked the teacher Shafiullah Majnu inside a room of the madrasa. Later, police rescued him for their anger.

Gurdians and wounded students said, “Assistant Professor Shafiullah beat some 10-12 male and female students mercilessly as they were late to return to the class after tiffin, leaving them injured. Locals rushed to the spot hearing hue and cry of other students and rescued them for the torture.

Locals also rushed the injured students to Dewanganj Upzila Health Complex.

Of the injured students, Fahim, 16, Sourav, 15, Mahfuzur, 14, Tanjina 15, Shariful, 16, Yeamin, 15, and Shila, 16, were admitted to Dewanganj Upazila Health Complex. Of them, Sourav and Fahim’s conditions are in critical.

Other three injured who could not be known immediately were given first aid at the hospital.

Abdul Latif Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dewanganj Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, “We were held the teacher. But managing committee the madrasa took responsibility to settle the matter locally. So, he was later released.”
