Narsingdi Correspondent: Two suspected Neo-JMB members were killed in explosion during a joint operation at a “militant den” at Bhogiratpur in Shaikher Char area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The bodies of the two suspected militants were recovered from the hideout on the fourth floor of a five-storey building following the operation code-named ‘Gordian Knot’ that ended this afternoon.
Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told this to reporters after ending the operation this afternoon.
“We had asked them to surrender before launching an assault on the den but they opened fire on us that triggered a gunfight. The suspected militants died during the gunfight,” he said.
A firearm and four unexploded bombs were recovered from the den, he added.
Earlier, CTTC members of DMP and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) started the operation at the ‘militant den’ in the morning.
The law enforcers kept the house cordoned off since last night suspecting the presence of members of militant group there.
The CTTC unit kept another den cordoned off at Madhabdi in Sadarupazila since Monday night.
CTTC members said over 100 police surrounded the seven-storey building in Gangpar area under Madhabdi municipality and another 5-storey building in Bhogiratpur area around 9:00 pm Monday.
