2 killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

Comilla Correspondent: At least two people were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police in the district’s Debidwar upazila early Saturday.

The gunfight took place around 3.00am on Saturday at Hatimara village.

The deceased were identified as Omar Faruk (22) at Kuruin village under Debidwar upazila and Md  Russel (28) at Techhra Pukuria village.

Police claimed that the deceased were robbers.  The two bodies were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

OC of DB police AKM Monzur Alam said tipped off that a gang of bandits was preparing to commit robberies and a team conducted a drive there. However, sensing the presence of the police team, the bandits swooped on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the gunfight, leaving two dead on the spot.

The DB team also arrested five suspected robbers.

He also claimed that five of their members including a sub-inspector were also injured.
Police recovered a revolver and some local weapons.
