2 killed in Teknaf ‘gunfights’

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: Two people have been killed in separate two ‘gunfights’ in the district’s Teknaf upazila.

In one incident, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Marine Drive road in Teknaf upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Dil Mohammad, 36, son of Makbul Ahmed of Godarbhil village in the upazila.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police arrested Dil Mohammad from the upazila Tuesday afternoon.

Later, a team of police along with Dil Mohammad conducted a drive at an abandoned fish enclosure in the area to recover firearms and Yaba.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers Dil Mohammad's associated opened fire on police and tried to snatch away Dil Mohammad, forcing them to fire back.

At one stage, Dil Mohammad caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
In another incident, a dacoit named Mostak Ahmed, 38, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police around 11.00am on Wednesday.
